Nicole Ari Parker is an American film TV and stage actor who was famous for her portrayal as the fierce lawyer Teri Joseph on the Showtime series Soul Food. After her marriage she became Nikki Kodjoe. Born and raised in Baltimore Maryland. When she was an infant, she showed an aptitude for acting. Born to Mumbai, India and raised in Nigeria up to the age of seven, Contractor was well-informed about the world and an array of different cultures from a young age. After attending boarding school during seven years of London, her family relocated to Toronto Canada where she spent the majority of her childhood and early adulthood. Contractor had a great academic career throughout her time in Toronto while also training as the ballerina. She attended the Etobicoke School of the Arts - a specialized arts high school that taught not just dance but also theater. When she was 16, after nearly 10 years of dancing Contractor discovered she was looking to study acting professionally. When she graduated from high school, Contractor was awarded a scholarship by The University of Toronto to pursue an undergraduate degree in psychology and sociology. In addition, she obtained a Master's degree in Theatre. Contractor was given the lead role in Pericles after a one-year stint in University. The audition was held for the role during the Stratford Shakespeare Festival (Ontario Canada) and received. The play received rave reviews and her performances on the stage in 92 productions. in the production. It was also voted as the best production by Canadian critics in 2002. The actor was invited to take part in the conservatory course, in which a select eight men and four females are selected for a course lasting 20 weeks in classical theatre, which she eagerly took. She was scheduled to perform in the following season's production was confirmed. She was cast in the role of Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream.
